Project Start Date -

Project Completion Date -

December 2014

City of Markham contracted Four Seasons to beautify a two-km stretch of Main Street in downtown Markham, to attract pedestrian traffic and enhance local business activity.

The work included reducing the roadway to two lanes and widening and adding features to pedestrian walkways as described in the scope of work below. This was the fourth urban beautification project completed by Four Seasons.

Key challenges for this project included:

  • Managing multiple stakeholders, including the City, BIA, business owners, residents and transportation along this busy corridor
  • Maintaining easy access to businesses. Four Seasons developed and installed custom gangways throughout project
  • Maintaining right of way for traffic and pedestrians while dramatically altering streetscape
  • Ensuring viability of plantings—Four Seasons installed soil cell technology (see below) to address this challenge

Safety Record: No lost time accidents

Awards and evidence of excellence:  Recognition from City Council and The Mayor.
